I am a Murtaler - Alpine Rose

  • 2 minutes of reading time
The Alps around the Mur Valley are glowing bright pink at the moment. The Almrausch makes the mountain world shine in its most beautiful facets.

Lime indicator

In Latin, the Almrausch is called Rhododendron hirsutum and grows to around 1 metre tall. The evergreen plant blooms at the end of June / beginning of July in bright shades of pink to pink and lends its surroundings a very special charm. Did you know that it is also called lime indicator? This is because it only grows on very calcareous ground and is therefore favoured in the Alps.

Caution!

Despite its beauty, however, the alpine rose should not be underestimated. It contains andromedotoxin and is therefore highly poisonous. It can cause nausea and vomiting as well as diarrhoea and, if eaten in excess, even seizures and breathing difficulties. It is simply a feast for the eyes and NOT for the palate.

Hiking Highlight

Experience the mountains of the Mur Valley as a place of power and be overwhelmed by the beauty of the alpine flowers. You will be amazed when you are suddenly surprised by the radiant colours.
