St. Maximilian's church

Pernegg

The Maximilian Church is around 300 years older than the Frauenkirche in Pernegg an der Mur. The mighty, Gothic defense tower and the grave slabs on the outer walls are particularly eye-catching. The church can be visited through a hike (church tour or village tour in Pernegg) or the Mur Cycle Path.

The Maximilian Church in the Kirchdorf district was first mentioned in 1130, so it is around 300 years older than the Frauenkirche in Pernegg. A large staircase leads to the late Gothic complex with a Romanesque nave, buttresses and a mighty defense tower. The first parish cemetery was built in 1843, so the outer walls are surrounded by numerous grave slabs. The Gothic interior shows a one-bay choir with a ribbed vault. A high altar, 2 side altars, the pulpit and the organ are also located inside. The Maximiliankirche serves as the parish church for the Pernegg parish.

The church can be visited by hiking on the church circuit or the village circuit in Pernegg. Many cyclists on the Mur Cycle Path also like to turn off to enjoy the church and the beautiful view.

Take advantage of the opportunity and travel by public transport.
