In the church of St. Sebastian there are wattle and daub stones, which come from the first church building from the 11th/12th century.
"Henricus de Merin" was named as the first parish priest of Straden in 1188 in a document of the Archbishop of Salzburg. The oldest church complex of Straden was destroyed by fire around 1460. Between 1480 and 1525 the parish church was rebuilt in Gothic style. The "Himmelsbergerin", a statue of Mary with the child, dates from this time. Due to the foundation of the Sebastian Brotherhood in 1517, the construction or reconstruction of the double church of St. Sebastian/Sorrowful Mother of God, located south of the parish church, is probably related.
