Stage 23 From Glacier to Wine North Route Fischbach - Am Straßegg

This stage of the hiking route "From Glacier to Wine" takes us from Fischbach, the highest mountain village in Eastern Styria, through beautiful forests and small alpine pastures in the direction of the Almenland Nature Park. A large part of the tour is identical with the Mariazell pilgrimage route - therefore we will also repeatedly encounter pilgrims on the way to Mariazell, the largest Marian pilgrimage site in Central Europe.
In Styria, hiking has a long tradition. Here, with 8 of a total of 10 long-distance hiking trails of the Austrian Alpine Association, you will find the most in Austria and weave one of the densest trail networks in the Alpine region. On this stage of the hiking route "From Glacier to Wine" we even move on two of these mentioned long-distance hiking trails, the Mariazell Trail 06 and the Central Alpine Trail 02, which leads from Hainburg on the Danube to Vorarlberg. The landscape of the stage: shady forest as promised by the name of the region - Waldheimat - and in between again and again small alpine pastures or clearings that tempt you to really let your soul dangle.

Detaillierte Informationen zur Anreise finden Sie hier.

We start in the idyllic village of Fischbach on the south side of the Fischbach Alps, which has often been voted the most beautiful mountain village in Styria. Past the bathing pond, we hike here in the Joglland-Waldheimat region first along meadows and past beautiful farmsteads to the Waisenschmied wayside cross. From here we enter the forest of the Fischbacher Alps and soon reach the Herrnalm, whose hut is only open for business during the annual Herrnalm festival on Whit Monday.

From now on, on this stage of the hiking route "From Glacier to Wine", we follow the Mariazell Trail 06 and Central Alpine Trail 02, walking in the opposite direction to the classic pilgrimage route, as the pilgrims walk from south to north and we head south. The trail now follows the ridge the entire time with fairly minor elevation changes. At the end of the tour, one of the most famous hosts of Eastern Styria awaits us, the Stroßeggwirt (Tel. +43 3171 260). The senior boss is not only a gifted musician on his harmonica, but also reads his guests' every wish from their eyes. And by the way: The Straßegg host always has a few musical instruments ready for the guests - so maybe we can discover our hidden, musical vein!? The devil's violin, the washboard guitar or the big sack drum are always ready and waiting for someone to play them. This will also get us in the mood for the next stage, which will take us to the Almenland Nature Park.
