Patscha-Trail St. Kathrein am Offenegg
Open
From the flower village of St. Kathrein to the Patscha saddle with its magnificent view and back via Gschaid and Zeil to the centre.
The loop leads beyond the Patscha summit to the Patscha-Nase (also Patscha-Sattel or Predigtstuhl), which is known for its magnificent view. The Patscha Nase lies steeply sloping above the Weizklamm gorge, facing south-west you have a spectacular view from St. Kathrein am Offenegg, over the Sommeralm and over the Passailer Kessel with the Rote Wand in the background. The locals know this point as the "3 Church View" because three villages with their church towers can be seen from here. Towards the east you can see the quarries in the Klamm (Wolfsattel) and the district capital of Weiz.
The starting point is the flower village of St. Kathrein, which is not only known for its flower decorations, but also for its townscape with the church on the rock in the centre of the village. Around the village, several excursion destinations (Graf Distillery, Sulamit Garden) invite you to visit and inns and snack stations invite you to stop for a bite to eat.

More information
- We start at the hotel, walk forward to the municipal office and left down to the deer enclosure.
- At the deer enclosure, we turn sharp left into the "Eggerweg" and walk under the hotel until we reach the "St. Kathrein" place name sign and the chapel.
- We now go steeply down along the path to the "Oberlammbacher".
- Now walk a short distance up the asphalted road to Egg and on to Kogl and the district of Greith.
- At the crossroads to Greith, we keep to the right and walk along the "Unterer Weg" in the direction of Patscha-Sattel. We pass the Patscha hole, a cave steeped in legend.Go through the pasture (please also close the pasture gate again!) along the forest path to the rest area (table & benches & cross) "Am Sattel".
- We continue to the right along the stony path (with overpass) to the Predigtstuhl or Patscha-Nase, from here there is a magnificent view into the Passailer Kessel (right) and into the Weizklamm or Weiz (left), on a clear day you can see as far as Slovenia/Pacherngebirge.
- We take the same path back to the "Sattel" and from there follow the signs to "Patscha-Berg".
- The path goes steeply uphill to the summit cross (Patscha summit, 1,271 m), directly at the summit cross is the "stone altar", where a mountain mass is held every year. The boulder opposite has a peephole through which you can see the village of St. Kathrein with its church.
- We continue straight ahead to the "Festplatz", a meadow with seating.
- Through the pasture passage we continue to the forest road, which we walk along to the Patscha hut. Here you can stop for a break (open Fri - Sun).
- Continue left up the asphalt road to "Gschaid", at the chapel the road leads right up to Eibisberg, but we continue straight ahead for about 100 m and now turn right onto the signposted path to "Zeil".
- We walk along the forest road, over the Lammbach and further up until we continue to the left across the road ("Zeil"), past the Edelbrennerei Graf, the GH Spreitzhofer and the Sulamith garden, back to the centre of St. Kathrein.
The way back to St. Kathrein leads, almost at the end of the tour, past the
Graf distillery. Here, noble distillates are distilled, but also juices, jams and chocolates can be tasted and purchased - or you can toast the beautiful hiking day with a schnapps!
