Schiffall and Kreuzkogel

A two-summit hike with a short climbing section and great views - beautiful and often secluded paths make this tour a real insider tip in the Graz mountains.
Although the Schiffall is a few meters higher, the Kreuzkogel is the more impressive summit, as you have to climb it via a short, secured climb over a steep rock step - but the magnificent panoramic view over the Mur valley and the Graz mountains with the Roter Wand, Hochlantsch, Gschwendtberg, Trötsch, Schöckl and many more is worth it from here. With the right equipment and in good weather, both cones can be climbed all year round and the short climb is also suitable for children with a little skill.

More information

S35 Abfahrt Laufnitzdorf

Starting point: Laufnitzdorf; parking on the main road, opposite the Schweizerhof inn. Continue straight ahead to the chapel, here turn right to the last house. Trail no. 531 via the Felber and Steiner farmsteads to the Schiffall (2 ½ hours); circular route via the Kreuzkogel (45 min.) with good views possible, but there is a short, secured rock step before the summit. Descent to Mixnitz is also possible.

The whole tour is well marked and easy to follow, path 531. From the Schiffall, continue to the Kreuzkogel. The Kreuzkogel can only be climbed by very easy scrambling. The climbing passages are secured with a wire rope. From the Kreuzkogel it's downhill again and a short detour back to the starting point. The fork is signposted so that you can change direction back in good time.

You can climb these two peaks from Laufnitzdorf as well as from Mixnitz, Göberlmoar or extend the circular route to a long-distance hike and return with the S-Bahn line 1, for example.
