Sattelberge & Gösser from Passail
Open
The hike leads directly from Passail out to the Sattelberge and up to the striking Gösser with its magnificent views of the Schöckl and towards Weiz.
The Sattelberge lie to the south of
Passail and shield the Passail basin from Weiz. The highest elevation of the Sattelberge is the Gösser with its "wall", which drops steeply towards the
Raabklamm gorge. This karst mountain range is home to over 200 caves, the best-known show caves being the
Grasslhöhle (the oldest show cave in Austria!) and the
Katerloch. Until the middle of the 20th century, a small alpine dairy with alpine hut and inn was operated on the Gössersattel, which was then abandoned due to the poor water supply.
On this hike, the Gösser is hiked around via trail no. 18b, this section of the trail offers the most beautiful views, but also requires surefootedness. Please be careful, the rock here breaks off steeply! Otherwise, the trail leads along easy-to-walk farm and access paths and is suitable for the whole family.
Variation:From the Dürntalkreuz down to the Dürntalwirt and via the well-marked trail no. 764 to the district town of Weiz, the return journey to Passail is then by bus with the bus number 206 or with the SAM-Sammeltaxi.
