Forest and Pumpkin Trail Rassach

Alpacas, healing waters and the fairytale lake. Stop looking - you have arrived, in Schilcherland Styria. On the hiking trail "Wald- und Kürbisrundweg Rassach" (Forest and Pumpkin Circuit Rassach), we take leisurely forest and meadow paths that are also suitable for the whole family. There are no summits on this tour, we have a variety of enjoyment goals in mind. The power spots along this hike not only show you some of the most beautiful secret spots in the south of Styria, but also many pleasure stations that will tempt you to take breaks along the way again and again. Hiking with pleasure - over forest and meadow paths along orange-glowing pumpkin fields - right into the heart of Styria.
Park the car and now we continue on foot. Our leisurely hike begins in Bad Gams at the sports field (opposite the spa gardens). In search of true power spots, this tour takes you through the villages of Furth, Gersdorf and Rassach. Many special highlights and enjoyment stations await you here. Past vineyards, colourful mixed forests, pumpkin fields and wonderful flower meadows - whether alone or with the whole family, this hike offers you the best conditions to enjoy being out in nature.

The surroundings of the municipality of Bad Gams are a popular hiking area. Bordered by the Reinischkogel and Rosenkogel, this tour promises us a wonderful walk along forest and meadow paths. Especially in late summer and early autumn, the colourful forests and pumpkin fields immerse the region in a play of colours.

First we start off in the direction of the Kipper spa hotel. Something quite extraordinary awaits you in the Kipper family's drinking hall - three different healing springs. Along the stream, the path leads us to the next stops, the Genuss-Erlebniswelt of the Farmer Rabensteiner family and the Strunz weaving mill. The tour continues along the village road, directly into the colourful mixed forest. Let yourself be enchanted here by the atmosphere of the fairytale lake. Past the cute alpacas of Ranch En Colores, we take a relaxed stroll through Rassach past the many small shops selling rural arts and crafts.

Hungry? In the heart of Rassach you can let yourself be spoilt by the restaurant das Ursprung or the Wia'z Haus Putzer. The Steinbauer family's farm distillery invites you to taste liqueurs, noble brandies and fresh fruits such as sour cherries, peaches, birches or plums.

Surrounded by forests and meadows, with a great view of the region, we can discover the Schilcherland on easy paths.

We start the tour in the Kurpark Bad Gams at the overview board and opposite the former municipal office. From here we follow the trail marker 26 and turn left towards the Kurhotel Kipper. At the Kurhotel Kipper we find something quite unusual - a drinking hall. Here we can taste three different medicinal springs. We find detailed information about the healing springs right there. Strengthened and full of energy, we continue our walk. We follow the soothing ripples of the torrent. At the transformer station we turn left until we reach the village of Furth. Here our first pleasure stop awaits us, the Farmer Rabensteiner oil mill. In the Farmer Rabensteiner family's world of enjoyment, we can not only learn a lot of interesting facts about the black gold of Styria, pumpkin seed oil, but also be fascinated by the diversity of the farm-gate sale. Definitely worth a break.

Our path leads us further along the village street to the Strunz weaving mill. In this weaving mill, modern carpets have been designed and also made to measure for 50 years using traditional handicraft techniques. If you book in advance, you can take a closer look at the workshop and you will be introduced to the art of weaving. Very interesting and recommendable.

Our hike takes us to the next village, Gersdorf. Our path climbs slightly through the fragrant mixed forest. Arriving at the hill, we follow a paved road for about 200 m until we can enter the cool forest again.

Our next highlight on this hike is also an absolute resting place. The fairytale lake welcomes us with its mystical atmosphere and some places to sit. Sit down, enjoy the peace and observe the carp and tench in their home. The Märchensee is filled by groundwater from the adjacent slopes and by natural precipitation and offers a unique natural spectacle at any time of year. That's why the locals like to call it Heavenly Pond - a truly beautiful name for this place.

Through the tranquillity of the forest, we return to a paved road towards Rassach. From afar, we are greeted by the cute alpacas of the Alpaca Ranch En Colores. This ranch also has a farm sale for all alpaca wool products. If you book in advance, you can also take part in a tour of the farm. Shortly before you reach the houses in Rassach, you have to climb a small hill and you are then directly on the B76. The village of Rassach is known for its many small shops with rural arts and crafts.

"In Rassach, the restaurant "Das Ursprung" invites you to a fine dining menu. Our path follows the B76 in the direction of Stainz. Here you can take a break at the Wia'z Haus Putzer. Our last pleasure stop on our way is the Steinbauer family's farm distillery on their fruit farm. 80 tempting apple varieties are grown and processed here.

Following marker 26, we turn left to the houses of the Hart district. Our path leads us through the mixed forest to a crossroads in the middle of the forest. Here we meet the Bad Gams-Vochera connecting road. The path leads to the left past the Horvarth agricultural machinery shop and then immediately to the right towards the centre of Bad Gams. Back at the starting point, today's hike ends on forest and meadow paths.

Farmer-Rabensteiner oil mill: Here you can experience at first hand how the green gold of Styria is produced. From the kübiskernel to the oil, you could say, and then it's just a matter of enjoying.
