Dive into the history of the city
The town, laid out according to plan on an elevated plateau from the early 12th century, still has parts of its town wall and two defense towers. The Renaissance castle in the middle of a park shows wall remains of a castle first documented in 1147. The addition to the castle is a successful answer to the question of how to harmoniously combine the old and the new.
Art-historical treasures of the town are the parish church and the Romanesque charnel house. The listed fountain on the main square, framed by umbrella platans, spreads an urban feeling with its spacious lounge furniture. When strolling through the city park, one looks at the Reckturm, one of the ten defense towers of the medieval city wall. Until the end of the 19th century, there was a moat in front of it, which was filled in and redesigned as a park. A shady promenade now leads from the historic laundry house to the Roman Lion. If you like nature, you can get to the nature reserve via the GMOOS path.
