Winterwanderweg am Eggbergrundweg, St. Jakob im Walde
Gasthof Orthofer in St. Jakob im Walde is also the starting point for the Joglland cross-country ski trail, which has been certified with the Styrian cross-country ski trail seal of approval. There are 60 kilometers of perfectly groomed cross-country ski trails available here. However, you can do without skis on this hiking tour. You hike leisurely through the snow-covered landscape around Gasthof Orthofer.
This trail is also a popular hiking route in summer.

Sankt Jakob im Walde is located approx. 24 km northwest of the district capital Hartberg in the far northwest of the Hartberg district. The municipality belongs to Joglland.
By car:
From Vienna: via the A2 to the Friedberg exit and B54 to Rohrbach, then via Mönichwald to St. Jakob im Walde
From Graz: via the A2 to the Rohrbach - Vorau exit, then to Rohrbach and on to Waldbach and St. Jakob im Walde
From the S6 Krieglach exit via the Alpl to Ratten and St. Jakob im Walde

- We start the winter hike at Gasthof Orthofer in St. Jakob im Walde
- First we walk past the log cabin towards the forest, but even here it is worth enjoying the view of the snow-covered landscape as far as the Hochschwab for the first time
- We hike up to the weather cross
- There, a signpost shows us the way up to Eggberg
- Once we reach the cross, we take the right-hand path
- This leads us through the forest and across a clearing to a farm
- Here we follow the access road until we come to another hiking boot as a trail marker, where we turn left into the forest
- A meadow path leads us to another farm, after which we immediately turn left uphill and hike up to the weather cross
- From there, we follow the road back to Gasthof Orthofer.
- On this tour, we follow the hiking boot with the yellow sole (as a trail marker) and the symbol with the mountains no. 2.
