The first church on Weizberg was built as early as the 11th century. However, this simple Romanesque basilica was replaced by a Baroque basilica in the 18th century. This was designated a basilica minor in January 2018, making it the fifth church in the area of the Diocese of Graz Seckau.
The basilica is a church with special features - inside it is decorated with fresco paintings by Josef Adam Ritter von Mölck, and on the ceiling you can find a painting of the five great Marian feasts of the church year. The high altar, in the center of which there is a Pietá depiction, is the work of the famous sculptor Veit Königer. The two towers of the basilica, which are about 44 meters high, are particularly striking from the outside.
