Wayside Shrine Kriechenlee

Passail

Wayside shrine in Kriechenlee near Passail.

The strikingly beautiful painted shrine was erected in the 17th century by the village community as a plague cross. It depicts the patron saints of the neighboring parishes:

  • St. James and St. George to the west,
  • in the south, St. Vitus, St. Florian, St. Michael and the plague saint Sebastian,
  • St. Catherine and St. Nicholas to the west.

The Holy Trinity can be seen above in the triangle.

The shrine is located directly on the “Mariazellerweg”, which is why many pilgrims pass by here. May devotions are also held here in May.

The wayside shrine is still looked after by the village community today and was last renovated in 2023.
