Prayer chapel Arndorf

St. Ruprecht an der Raab

The Arndorf prayer chapel is one of the seven squares on the path “7 Plätze 7 Schätze”, which connects the Burgthannerweg and the Kernkapellenweg, and leads past 7 squares that house 7 special treasures. All seven places are related to the famous wood carver Hans Pendl.

The prayer chapel Arndorf shows a kneeling Christ on the Mount of Olives deliberately not a crucifixion, but a Jesus who looks up to the cross and thus accepts the cross. “I go my own way and won't let myself be put off”. The chapel was planned by Karl Pfeifer, the Jesus was carved from linden wood from the adjacent Arndorf Forest by Hans Pendl. In Arndorf, formerly called Aribendorf, there was a wayside shrine since 1755 and the Christianization of our area is said to have started here. In 2016, this original wayside shrine was torn down and rebuilt and inaugurated by the Arndorf residents with great diligence and countless hours. The bishop's cross and the memorial to the fallen local residents were taken from the original cross and attached to the rear of the new chapel.
