Parish church Anger

Anger

Patron Saint Andrew

The parish church of St. Andreas in Anger was built between 1708 and 1711 by master builder Lorenz Stataler from St. Ruprecht an der Raab. It is a four-bay pillar church with side chapels and galleries running around them, closed off by a mighty choir apse. The bell tower, however, is still of medieval origin and was completed in 1764 with a mighty tower dome. This oldest part of the church was built around 1161 as a Romanesque choir tower church and decorated with frescoes in the 14th century. There are five bells in the bell tower, including the largest and oldest from 1713, cast by Florentin Streckfuss in Graz, followed by three steel bells from 1922, cast by Böhler in Kapfenberg, and finally a bronze bell from 1936 Plant of the Graz cast iron works Szabo. In addition to the large pictures of the apostles on the galleries, the magnificent organ case deserves special mention. It was created around 1740 by the Graz organ builder Caspar Mitterreither. Today's organ is the work of organ builder Georg Jann from 1983.
