Built between 1171 and 1180 by Leopold von Erlach, this Romanesque castle complex is a jewel of Styria. With a length of 90 meters and a width of 23 meters, the building complex stretches majestically to the west-east, flanked by two mighty square towers.
The history of the castle is marked by various changes of ownership and different eras, from the Romanesque to the late Gothic period. The keep in the east and the 24-metre-high keep are impressive relics of a bygone era.
Unfortunately, it is not possible to enter the castle, but it is possible to view it from the outside. Directly to the east of the main entrance to Thalberg Castle, next to the bus stop, there is an information board that provides an insight into the history of the construction and rule of Thalberg Castle.
Take the opportunity and travel by public transport.
