The Festenburg was built around 1200 by the Lords of Stubenberg erected. It was then called "Vöstenburg." Over the centuries, the castle changed owners repeatedly. The medieval "Vöstenburg" has belonged to the Vorau Monastery since 1616. Around 1700, the fortress was converted into a monastery castle. The defensive tower became the church tower, the knights' hall was transformed into a church, and adorned with magnificent frescoes by the Vorau monastery painter Hackhofer.
Let yourself be enchanted by the over 800-year-old castle during a guided tour and visit the many opulent and beautiful individual chapels in the Festenburg.
