Maralm Loop Trail

This is a scenic hike to the foot of the southern slopes of the Dachstein; through the diverse Ramsau's alpine pastures.
The Maralm hiking trail runs along the Styrian-Salzburg border between Filzmoos and Ramsau in the Dachstein mountains. The starting point is at the Dachsteinruhe parking lot. Along the alpine road you get to the Schaidlalm where you can see marmots with a little patience. Continue on the hiking trail in the direction of Marboden, past the small hut village Neustattalm you reach the Dachstein road to the Glösalm.

More information

From the west:

Tauern Autobahn (A 10) to Knoten Ennstal - turnoff direction Graz/Schladming - stay on the Ennstal-Bundesstraße (B320) for approx. 20 km until Schladming - take the turnoff for Ramsau.

From the north:

Pyhrn Autobahn (A 9)  direction Liezen - take the Ennstal-Bundesstraße (B320)  to Schladming - turnoff Ramsau.

The starting point is the car park at Gasthof Dachsteinruhe. The trail starts at the county border between Filzmoos and Ramsau. You can either walk up the forestry road or take the shuttle to see the marmots at Schaidalm below the Bachlaalmhütte. You will soon discover marmot holes in the field. To see the marmots, you will need to be patient and it will be easier if you take some carrots, apples or nuts with you. From Schaidalm, follow trail no. 671 east, towards Marboden. This easy trail offers impressive views of the steep slopes of the Dachstein. The trail crosses a little brook and will lead through larch woods to Marboden and Neustattalm. Past Neustattalm, you will reach the Dachsteinstraße. Follow the street down to Glös-Alm. From there, take the forestry trail through a short forest passage to the Luxwiese. There, you will get to the Duregg Loop Trail no. 8. Take a final look at the three impressive mountains Torstein-Mitterspitz-Dachstein, and follow the narrow alpine path back down to the Dachsteinruhe.
