Kräuterhalsrunde Wildalpen

Wildalpen - Holzäpfeltal - Jausenstation Astrid - Kräuterhals - entlang und oberhalb der Salza - oberhalb Camping-Wildalpen - Wildalpen
The Kräuterhalsrunde is a circular hiking trail that leads directly along the Salza River and offers great views of Riegerin. Wildalpen - Water is transported from Hochschwab via Wildalpen to Vienna by valuable aqueducts of the second Vienna HochQuellenWasserleitung. The federal capital Vienna is supplied with drinking water and it is recommended to take a good sip of water in Wildalpen at the source. Rugged, steep rock faces, dotted with colourful alpine flowers and species-rich wildlife make Wildalpen a great natural wonder. On sunny days, the Salza sparkles emerald green and attracts countless white-water sports enthusiasts to the cool water.

You start at the large signpost next to the Barbara Church in Wildalpen and walk over the old Salzaholz Bridge above the campsite, the trail then continues left on the asphalt road. You will come to a crossroads and follow the signs to the right into the Holzäpfeltal valley, past Jausenstation Astrid and an aqueduct of the II Vienna HochQuellen water pipeline. In front of the Brandl farmstead, turn right uphill through forest and meadow to the Kräuterhals. It becomes comfortable and then it goes downhill and the view changes completely; you can even admire the Riegerin; before you have almost reached the bottom, the path branches off to the right onto a small alpine path. The path runs above the Salza, partly difficult to walk on, to Wildalpen. You come out again at the cemetery and continue back above the campsite to the Salzaholz bridge.

Refreshment stops: Jausenstation Astrid in Holzäpfeltal and Cafe Restaurant Grabner and Hotel Bergkristall in the village centre.

Direct access to the Salza is more likely to be found in the last quarter of this circular tour! In the area of Camping-Wildalpen up to about half parallel along the course of the river Salza.
