Mountain church Tauplitzalm

Tauplitz

The small mountain church on the Tauplitzalm was built in 1962/1963 on the initiative of the Catholic youth.

This small mountain church is not equipped for regular masses, but is mainly intended for vacationers who live on the "Alm". The architect is Kurt Weber-Mzell, who also designed the modern church in Weißenbach.

The church itself is reminiscent of a tent, expressing that man is only passing through on earth and that life only begins in heaven. The church's striking gable shape is comparable to a mountain - after all, it is a mountain church.

Upon entering the church, one's attention is immediately drawn to the magnificent window that completely fills the front; it is a sign of the Holy Trinity. From the colors it becomes lighter towards the top, thus suggesting the Resurrection.

Linoleum is the material of the floor, while in the sanctuary there is a wooden floor and the rectangular wooden altar fits in its shape with the church. On the altar there is a cross, which is made of glass, like the window.

It is striking that neither ambo (reading desk), tabernacle (storage space for the consecrated hosts, baptismal font nor sessio (chairs where priests and altar servers sit) are present, as this is a church intended only for mountain masses. Another characteristic of this church is a spiral staircase leading to the sacristy in a basement. The arrangement of the pews is continuous and without aisle.
