Safentalweg Bad Blumau

From the place of honor of Robert Rogner and Friedensreich Hundertwasser in Bad Blumau to the 1000-year-old oak tree on the Bierbaumer Höhe. A hike to reflect on visions and greats.
A hike that takes you along low-traffic side roads and forest paths around Bad Blumau and connects two special places: the "Square of Visionaries" in Bad Blumau (Rogner/Hundertwasser) and the 1000-year-old oak tree on the Bierbaumer Höhe. Right at the starting point of the hike you will find the square, which was built in honor of Robert Rogner and Friedensreich Hundertwasser and can be seen as a recognition of the realization of an extraordinary vision. Originally, the site was drilled for oil in the 70s. No oil, but 100° hot water was found at a depth of about 2800 meters. This was the origin of the Spa Therme Blumau, which was opened in 1997 and is the result of a successful cooperation between the two gentlemen mentioned above. A natural highlight can be marveled at during the hike through the spa community of Bad Blumau, namely the 1000-year-old oak tree. This tree is one of the oldest oaks in Europe and with a height of 30 meters and a trunk diameter of over 2 meters, it represents a special natural monument.

Detailed information on how to get to us can be found here.

We start at the information office and thus in the center of Bad Blumau. Just opposite is the municipal office and here we see the boards in the direction of the thermal park and public WC. We cross the wooden bridge, then turn left and continue along the hiking trail until we reach the asphalt road. After crossing the road, we continue to the right until we reach the traffic circle. We keep straight on, shortly after we cross the railroad tracks and reach the beginning of Kleinsteinbach. At the crossroads we keep to the right, passing by the Stoabocha wine tavern and shortly after, to the left slightly uphill through the populated area. We stay on the road that leads through the forest to a rest area. Shortly after, we reach the hamlet of Untergfangen and hike slightly uphill and subsequently comfortably downhill. We continue on the asphalt road past fields and meadows and turn left at the next two crossroads. A short stretch on the road, then we turn right into a side road. Now follows a comfortable section on a gravel road through the shady forest, continuing to the right at the next intersection (no signpost available). Arrived at the asphalt road, we now continue to the right, passing by a large glasshouse and just before the tracks we turn right. If you need a break now, you can take the turnoff to the Extrazug Inn (about 2 minutes away). We stay on the road and reach Bierbaum. Through this small village, where we also pass a 24-hour farm store, we continue walking to the church and then along the road until we turn left into a side road. At the crossroads there is a signpost with the inscription "Oldest Oak in Europe". From now on we go slightly uphill, always straight ahead, until we reach the rest area around the 1000-year-old oak tree. Continue through the forest until we reach the asphalt road and subsequently Loimeth. At the crossroads to Loimeth we keep to the right and after about 300 m we follow the stream path. After passing a wayside cross, we stay straight on the road and reach Blumauberg. We pass a few houses until we turn left into the Bergweg. Now we hike comfortably downhill, pass by the church of Bad Blumau, keep to the right and reach the starting point of the hike.
