Cycling for pleasure - Wine Road Tour Variant 1 - "Kranachberg-Heimschuh"

Open
This tour presents the glory and gastronomic delights of South Styria!
From the starting point in Ehrenhausen, the tour leads to Gamlitz via the Kranachberg and on to the Kreuzbergwarte - a wonderful viewing tower that offers a sweeping view of the South Styria Nature Park. From Kreuzberg, the Wine Road Tour Variant 1 continues to Großklein, and through the Saggautal valley to Heimschuh. There's a stop-off point at Lake Sulm (a great place to cool off), before the tour continues  to the district capital of Leibnitz. From here, it's a leisurely ride through the "Murauen" (river Mur floodplains) back to the historical town of Ehrenhausen.

More information

The tour starts at the train station in Ehrenhausen, heading towards Gamlitz, where you continue on the state road in the direction of Grubtal. The route then begins to climb up towards Labitschberg/Kranachberg on quiet municipal roads, past beautiful vineyard-clad slopes. There is a short stretch through the forest, then it's onward for another 400 m or so west along the municipal road before turning right to start the slightly more challenging part of the route through the forest. After a kilometer of forest trail, we come to an asphalted municipal road and leave the Gamlitz municipal area behind, heading towards Kreuzberg. From here we continue along the municipal roads up to Großklein, straight through the town in the direction of Saggau. Here, the Weinstraßentour shares a stretch with the Two-River Tour beside the Saggau river, and then shares a stretch with the Sausaler Tour along the Sulmtal Cycle Trail R1 in the direction of Heimschuh, and then on to Kaindorf an der Sulm. After the old railway bridge, the stretch runs beside the Lassnitz river towards the Erlebnisbad Leibnitz water park.

Past the water park, you finally come to the Murradweg at Landscha via the municipal roads of Wagna. Here, follow the signposting for the R2 (Murradweg) towards Spielfeld. At the Murbrücke Ehrenhausen (bridge), it's then back to the starting point.

Kreuzbergwarte viewing tower: There are quite a few steps to the top, but your efforts will be rewarded with a wonderful view.
