Feldbach

In memory of the plague epidemic survived.

As in many Austrian towns, the plague raged several times in Feldbach. The disease was called the black death and had no means against it. In thanksgiving for a survived plague epidemic, this Marian column was erected in 1717.
In 1945, at the end of the Second World War, it was destroyed and in 1949 it was redesigned with a new capital and a figure of the Virgin Mary made of Aflenz lime by the famous Austrian sculptor Hans Mauracher. When the main square was redesigned between 2001 and 2004, the column was also restored and embedded in the new recreational area with the beautiful river fountain.
