Franz Gsellmann's world machine is already world-famous by now. Everything turns, everything moves, everything lights up and flashes. It rings and rattles, rings and whistles. The machine is alive.
Symbol of stubbornness par excellence
From 1958 to 1981 - a total of 23 years - farmer Franz Gsellmann from Kaag in Edelsbach near Feldbach tirelessly built his world machine. Around 2,000 different objects were built into a quivering, swinging, rotating, booming, shining and flashing marvel, brought to life by 25 electric motors.
In his own family and in the village he met with rejection and was ridiculed for it. Shortly before his death, Franz Gsellmann mounted a rotating question mark and declared his work complete. For him it was a "dream machine" - that's what he called his marvel - but for the people it was "nonsense".
