Feldbach

Where Dautermann is on it, art is in it: great art in the truest sense! A pair of artists charges an entire region with their creative energy.

Encounter with great art
At first glance, one would not assume that large-scale wooden sculptures are part of this artist's standard repertoire - but as is so often the case, appearances are deceptive: "I grow together with the power saw," Roswitha Dautermann enthusiastically describes how, among other things, the largest Styrian Christ, measuring six meters, was created in St. Anna am Aigen.

It also seems surprising that the artist from eastern Styria actually comes from the field of ceramics. Together with her husband and artist partner Curd Dautermann, she has been running a ceramics workshop in Raabau near Feldbach for around 25 years.

Together they also attended the Ortweinschule in Graz (where they both now teach) and studied ceramics in Linz. While Curd has also moved artistically towards photography over the years, Roswitha realizes her ideas, which for her "always come first," with numerous different techniques and materials. "I'm the chameleon of the two of us," she explains with a laugh, because whether painting, graphics, object, wood sculpture, sculpture, illustration or performance art - she juggles between all these artistic forms of expression passionately and with a lot of energy.

So it's no wonder that one encounters Dautermann's art in the thermal and volcanic region of Styria quite often. If you want to see even more art, you can also visit the crossroads in Breitenfeld and Edelsbach - or meet Roswitha and Curd in their workshop (registration requested!).
