Rudi Molacek began his career as a modeling photographer but soon transitioned behind the camera to make a name for himself as a fashion photographer in the 1980s. His friendship and contemporaneity with representatives of the new wild painting, as well as Neo-Geo, turned him into an art collector. Molacek's enthusiasm for and openness to new things that were beautiful and brought joy was by no means quelled.
His continuous engagement with his artist friends, the accumulated knowledge—primarily about painting—and understanding of the art system led him to pick up a brush himself in the 1980s. In his work, he experiments with various materials and techniques in a lightness and playfulness; a recurring motif for Molacek is flowers, a symbol of the hedonistic approach as a life principle that also touches his work.
The motif of the rose is generated from the technical media world and is transferred into the three-dimensionality of a sculpture, which, in turn, finds its place in nature. Molacek does not see himself as a flower painter or landscape designer; his references are the Pop Art artists from the New York scene, from Andy Warhol and Jasper Johns to Claes Oldenburg, who elevated trivial objects to an iconic status with superlative clarity in their work.
The exhibition is open until November 15, 2025, from Monday to Saturday from 10 am to 6 pm! Sunday by appointment!
