Route planner

Start: Dürntalwirt/Dürntal near Weiz
  • We start directly in front of the Dürntalwirt and walk up Gösserstraße for a short distance and then turn right into the forest.
  • We are now on trail no. 18 in the direction of "Grasslhöhle", and climb uphill in the forest.
  • We soon reach the entrance to the Grasslhöhle cave and turn right into the forest again.
  • Continuing uphill, we soon reach the access road to the Katerloch and turn right uphill.
  • Continuing along the asphalt road(trail no. 18a), we reach the parking lot at the Katerloch.
  • Behind the parking lot sign, we follow trail no. 18a up through the forest to the crossroads at the Lärchsattel.

For the very best view of the Almenland and back to Weiz, you should turn left up here and walk the short distance to the Sattelweg cross, a few steps to the right at the Sattelweg cross and you can see into the Almenland.

  • We turn right here onto the farm track and now follow trail no. 18 again in the direction of "Wachthaussattel/Gschaid".
  • We walk down to the Wachthaus cross at the junction to Passail and keep right there (path no. 18).
  • We pass the small, yellow wayside chapel on the right at the Wachthaussattel, where the benches invite us to take a break.
  • We now walk down the gravel path to Gschaid, with beautiful views to the right.
  • In Gschaid, turn left downhill onto the farm/hiking trail and head towards "Dürntal/Dürntalwirt, trail no. 19"
  • Always slightly downhill and past some farmsteads, we reach the Lärchsattelstraße again shortly before the village of Dürntal.
  • We continue downhill along the road through Dürntal and can already see Dürntalwirt on the right.
  • Shortly before the road junction, we take a right turn and are immediately back on the Gösserstrasse.
  • A few steps up to the right and we are back at our starting point.
