War Memorial Courtyard Pöllau
PöllauIn one of the courtyards of the castle Pöllau in the Nature Park Pöllau Valley you can find the war memorial.
At the center of Pöllau you can find the castle and former Augustinian monastery. The war memorial courtyard with its wonderful arcades is located in one of the inner courtyards of the castle Pöllau.
In 1482 Hans von Neuberg, the former owner of the castle and the market Pöllau, decreed in his will that the castle should be used as an Augustinian monastery. The monastery was finally established 22 years later. In the same year eight Augustinian canons under provost Ulrich moved from the monastery in Vorau to Pöllau. The monastery was altered and extended between 1677 and 1779.
