A Life for Music. THE STOAKOGLER
Gasen is the home of three brothers who began making music together in the 1960s. Their love for music shaped their lives. With the song “Steirermen san very good,” they became world-famous.
Who doesn’t know this hit from the “Stoakogler”? Since 1992, this earworm has been played up and down on radio stations – the song is said to be something like the unofficial Styrian anthem. And that is something to be proud of. Since the retirement of the “Stoanis” from the stage in 2008, there has also been a musical of the same name.
From the mountain farm to the hearts of fans.
Everything started in the 1960s in the 20th century. At a time when a new kind of music was emerging. Innovative sounds dominated, and the international music business began its triumphant march. However, three brothers from East Styria found little appeal in the Rolling Stones, the Beatles, and other rock ‘n’ roll stars; instead, they took real folk musicians as role models.
The popular music group “Das Edler Trio,” consisting of clarinet, Styrian harmonica, and trombone, was a guiding force for the brothers. Enthused by this way of making music, they adopted this style and refined it to make it known worldwide.
Styrian music played
In the middle of the village center of Gasen lies the “House of Music.” On the ground floor, there is a farmer's shop, regional handicrafts, and a café. On the first and second floors, the Stoani Museum offers a look back at their decades of successful work. From the highlights of their career to a wealth of information about the entire folk music industry in Austria, there is much to see.
Why not feel like Hubert von Goisern or Andreas Gabalier for once?
In the Stoanineum, one can get hands-on. In this unique music school, learning and regularly playing the "Styrian harmonica" is offered following the Michlbauer method. Adults and children learn not only the harmonica but also hammered dulcimer, guitar, double bass, and various brass instruments. The courses are designed for all age groups (students from 7 to 87 years!) with simple and fast learning methods.
In addition to regular lessons, holiday seminars are also offered. Enrollment or withdrawal is possible at any time! Affordable rental harmonicas for beginners can also be borrowed here.
All course dates and further information can be found on the Stoanineum website!
