In the Seckauer Tauern in Styria, a few metres below the summit cross of the Gaaler Höhe lies the Fohnsdorferhütte, which is a popular weekend and holiday destination for day trippers between 1 May and the last Sunday in September. During the week, operations are at a standstill.
It is mainly hikers who come here to enjoy the magnificent view, because mountain bikers are not welcome. Of course, this is not the fault of the hut owner, but of the forest owner. However, an official mountain bike trail leads past the nearby Mostschänke Stoxreiter.
As far as the altitude of the hut is concerned, there are two variants. One says that this base is at 1.490 m, the other is based on the summit cross and speaks of 1.517 m. This is also what it says above the hut. This is also written above the entrance to the hut.
