More information

Coming from Judenburg via Unzmarkt to Scheifling. Continue straight ahead until you reach Neumarkt. After Neumarkt turn left and drive to Mühlen.

Coming from Tamsweg drive via Ranten (or Stadl an der Mur) to Murau. Keep right here and drive via Laßnitz and St. Lambrecht to Mariahof. Here turn right again and drive to Neumarkt. In Neumarkt keep left and drive to Mühlen.

From the center of Mühlen you go through the Kastanienallee approx. 100 m to the SE. Immediately after the bend to the right, hiking trails 2,7,8, the Norische Panoramaweg and the 1st Austrian hiking fairy tale "Hans im Glück" branch off from the main road half-right. Past the farmstead vlg. Prack, the path leads under the federal highway 92, between forest and pastures in the direction SW to a fountain of youth, which is particularly appreciated by the ladies.

Slightly ascending through a small piece of forest, the asphalt path now leads to the fork of paths 2 or 7,8, Norischer Panoramaweg and "Hans im Glück". The trail now runs almost straight ahead to the NW in the direction of the peat bog until it reaches the connecting path from Aich to Pörtschach. Follow the path leading S until you reach the edge of the forest. Here you will again encounter the hiking fairy tale "Hans im Glück".

Continue slightly uphill through a short stretch of woods to the highest point of the hike and at the same time one of the most beautiful vantage points in the Mühlen area. A rustic table with two benches invites you to linger.

The flat trail now leads us across the large pastures between "Gamswinkel" on the right and the Aicher Weid further to the SW before it turns slightly downward in a westerly direction towards Pörtschach. In Pörtschach, trail 2 turns left (SE) and leads us through the gentle valley of the Pörtschachbach stream to the Althaus ruins, perched on a rock and visible from afar, and on to the Althaus estate. On the south side of the Althaus estate is a 400-year-old sundial depicting a lute player, which has been lovingly restored. From there, head E to a chapel and follow the path towards Hörfeld (N, left) until you reach a lookout bench. Here you can enjoy the magnificent view of the Zirbitzkogel and Noreia.Follow the slightly descending road to the observation and viewing point at the Hörfeld. After another 200 m you reach the federal road B92, from where a short detour to the GH Körbler, located about 1 km to the south, is tempting.

Take the cycle path that runs parallel to the B92 to the large display and explanation board and you will reach the entrance to Mühlen via the fauna and flora of the Hörfeld.Continue on the cycle path until it meets paths 2, 7 and at the underpass of the federal road B92. Through the underpass of the B92 (on the right) and following the markings you get back to the center of Mühlen.
