Via Artis Grimmingorte

The hiking trail leads from the starting point at the birthplace of Herbert Zand in the district of Knoppen first along the main road to Obersdorf, then along a hiking trail to Bad Mitterndorf, from there also along walking trails to Tauplitz. The trail has four stations.

The Archduke had his chamber painters Jakob Alt, Jakob Gauermann and Matthäus Loder capture the beauty of this landscape and striking events during his multiple stays in many watercolors and drawings.These artists were followed by countless others in the following decades up to the present day: Not only painters and sculptors, musicians and composers, but above all poets and writers, but also scientists and scholars.

On the VIA ARTIS (Artists' Paths in Ausseerland) you can follow in the footsteps of some of the artists who, like many others, have made Ausseerland their summer retreat or even their adopted home. Like pearls, the three self-contained artists' paths - the Via Artis Bad Aussee, the Via Artis Altaussee and the Via Artis Grundlsee - are strung together with scenic beauty and memories of the cultural past to form a harmonious whole.

It is best to plan the journey to Bad Mitterndorf with google.at/maps.

From Knoppen at station I (house of Herbert Zand's birth) leads the path first to the main road in direction to the church on the hill "Kumitzberg" to the area of Obersdorf. There you will find station II to at the house of Franz Fraungruber's birth (Obersdorf number 29).

From then on first on the road through the village than downwards to the forester's house, about 700 meters, you have to tunr to the left and follow the path number 17 to Bad Mitterndorf where you will find station III.

After that you shall walk through the center of the village, where you can visit a small traditional museum "Heimatmuseum Strick", which is near the tourist office. Then between the stairs up to the church and a local bank you have to follow the small street and the walking path number 2 in direction to Tauplitz. First you will reach Krungl, where there were found about 100 years ago massive cemetery. From the "Kanzler wellness appartements" you follow the cycle path R19 or the path number 5 always in direction to Tauplitz passing the skiflying hill "Kulm". From then on after 3 more kilometers you will reach the area "Furt" and finally station IV at the center of Tauplitz.

The residences of the artists can only be observed from the outside. The buildings and grounds are private property and therefore not accessible.
