Snowshoe hike from Stüblergut to Wölkerkogel

Closed
An easy snowshoe or winter hike in the heart of the Stubalpe in the Murtal and Lippizanerheimat adventure region. Here you will find easy snowshoe terrain combined with a beautiful view in the summit area and two inviting inns.
The low mountain landscape of the Stubalpen in the adventure region Murtal and Lippizanerheimat is scenically predestined for snowshoe or winter hikes. The path leads through dense forests to the Alte Almhaus, with occasional open spaces offering a beautiful view of the Wölzer Tauern and the Seckau Alps. During the ascent and descent to the Alte Almhaus you can make good use of the wind- and weather-protecting function of the forest, because at the latest from the Alte Almhaus you are on open areas, where you have to reckon with more or less wind. The goal of the hike is the Wölkerkogel, on which instead of a summit cross a widely visible statue of the Virgin Mary, "Steinerne Miarz" is enthroned.

By car to snowshoeing - a few things to watch out for!

Good winter tires are an absolute MUST!Ice scraper, snow broom, de-icer for the door locks and a small shovel belong to the basic equipment.Put snow chains and a tow rope in the car, even if you are not good with them yourself. Helping and knowledgeable hikers are always available on the mountain!Clear the car completely of snow and ice, especially sweep off the roof of the car completely. When parking, make sure you leave room for other motorists.Always park so that the rest of the roadway remains clear for cars, logging trucks, and snow removal vehicles.Find out about the snow situation on the access road or parking facilities before setting off. (hut host, webcams).

At the parking lot Stüblergut (1), 1365 m, there is a location board and two yellow signposts. We follow the signpost with the inscription (Römerweg - Altes Almhaus - 1,650 m - 1 ¾ h) and walk directly between the inn and the farm buildings. After a few meters, the forest road branches slightly to the left, with red-white-red markings and yellow signposts here. We follow trail no. 30, which leads continuously slightly uphill. In between we are on a strongly formed hollow path, which is partly impassable due to bushes and trees and is therefore bypassed at the edges of the slope. After about 40 minutes the path joins a wide forest road. As an orientation aid - since there are no signposts - there is a high seat (2), 1469 m, which stands directly in the crossing area. Now turn right and continue on the forest road. In between we have a clear view of the 1928 m high Rappoldkogel, which is also a worthwhile snowshoe destination. After about 15 minutes we reach another forest road, which is also used as a cross-country ski trail. From now on we are accompanied - visibly and audibly - by the windmills, which are located above the further course of the path. We keep to the right and continue along the edge of the groomed cross-country ski trail until we reach the exit (3), 1578 m, a yellow signpost to the left indicates the Alte Almhaus. The marked path leads slightly uphill to the road, which we follow to the Alte Almhaus (4), 1649 m. From the parking lot you can already see the destination and walk the last meters uphill to the Wölkerkogel (5) at 1706 m above sea level. After a comfortable break at the Alte Almhaus, we hike back along the same path.
In winters with little snow, this tour is also a very beautiful winter hike.
There is no public transport connection to the starting point of the tour.
