Rappoldkogel

“The refreshing one”
This hike in the heart of the Styrian Randgebirge will reward and inspire you with outstanding views of the Ameringkogel and Grössenberg. Combine your hike with a visit to the legendary Steinerne Miaz.

The starting point of this hike is the "Altes Almhaus" mountain inn. From there, hiking trail 505 leads on a flat stretch in the direction of the Rappoldkogel. On the left side you can see the stone statue of the Virgin Mary in the distance - church services are always held there in summer. Follow trail 505 to the "Gerti-Thörl" where the Rappoldkogel tour branches off from trail 505 with trail number 505B. The ascent to the Rappoldkogel begins slowly (only experienced hikers should consider the Rappoldkogel variant) - a leisurely and slow pace is taken on a hiking trail to the summit of the Rappoldkogel (1900m) - from the summit there is a wonderful distant view of the Murtal - after the obligatory summit photo, the trail continues in the direction of the Salzstiegelhütte - immediately after the summit, a few stone steps lead downwards where a beautiful hiking trail follows the steps. After approx. 2.5 hours from the start, you reach the Salzstiegelhütte - tasty home-cooked meals invite you to linger and relax - freshly strengthened, you return to the Alte Almhaus on hiking trail marker 505 - a flat, wide trail (a cross-country ski trail in winter) - walking time approx. 1.5 hours.
