Stage 04 - Air: Seven Elements – The Path
The fourth stage leads from the Ennstaler Hut to Großreifling and connects the element of air with the process of breathing freely. The question “Which encounters allow me to breathe freely and become freer?” accompanies us as we descend from the high mountains into the valley. The Bible quote “The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going” (John 3:8) invites us to feel the freedom of the moment. Steep passages alternate with wide plains where the landscape opens up and the rivers Enns and Salza dominate the scene. In this way, breathing freely can be experienced not only in the landscape, but also inwardly.
This project is supported by the Interreg Danube Region Programme, co-financed by the European Union.
With an elevation loss of around 1,000 meters, this stage is challenging but also full of impressive moments. Steep passages alternate with wide views before we hike through a varied landscape at the bottom of the Tamischbach valley. Crossing the “Übergang,” we reach Kirchenlandl with its well-tended cultural landscapes and wide plains. After a short rest, the trail leads over the old Enns bridge to the opposite side of the valley, where a path above the deeply cut Enns river offers impressive views. Passing the quiet mouth of the Salza river, we finally reach Großreifling, which is also known for the Austrian Forestry Museum Silvanum.
