Lieglloch - cave

Tauplitz

If you stand at a suitable spot near the village of Tauplitz in the valley, you can admire the entrance to the Lieglloch from a distance.

Otherwise, the portal, which is up to 15 meters wide and 10 meters high, only opens up in front of you at an altitude of 1,290 meters above sea level, after you stand directly in front of it. You reach the Lieglloch via the district of Hollam, above Tauplitz. Walking time about 45 minutes.

Because of the good accessibility and visibility, man was in the cave very early, possibly hunting for cave bears. Numerous excavations since 1926 have brought to light valuable findings (two fireplaces, stone tools, bone needle, a bone flute with two holes, medieval double-headed pendant, etc.). Other cave contents were fetched and used as fertilizer by farmers in the interwar period.

Only the first part of the cave is easily accessible. A horizontal passage can be followed for about 50 meters, sometimes upright, sometimes bent.
