Around the Hirzmann reservoir

Closed
The lake with its fresh mountain water in the midst of green forests and a wildly romantic lakeside path is a popular destination for nature lovers, especially on hot summer days.
THE CIRCULAR ROUTE IS CLOSED FOR THE TIME BEING DUE TO LANDSLIDES!

There are two places where rocks have broken off and the path needs to be cleared of stones and repaired.

The special attraction for circular hikers is the new, almost 60-metre-high footbridge over the Hirzmann dam. This shortens the circular route considerably and offers spectacular views into the depths, as well as of the green lake and the mountains opposite. The lakeside path - or rather path - is beautifully laid out in the forest and mostly leads directly along the water. There are always secluded places to rest or take a refreshing dip in the lake. The path also leads over rocks, so good footwear and hiking poles are recommended. There are also a few ladders and footbridges to cross, which makes this varied hike even more attractive for the whole family.

über Köflach - Edelschrott

In summer, the parking situation at the Ströhberne Brücke can be very tight due to the bathing operations. There are then several alternatives to start the route - either you start directly in Edelschrott and follow the lake road/hiking trail to the bridge, or you park near the dam on the L346 country road or at the former Hirzmann inn and follow the forest road/hiking trail to the dam.

The trail can be walked in both directions and can be started/ended either from Edelschrott or from the dam. The circular route along the shore is marked and easy to find (S1, 91). Due to a landslide, there is a small marked detour on the south-western shore.

In summer, the lake can also be "hiked" directly on the water - hire a SUP or kayak and you'll think you're paddling through a fjord.
