Tauplitz

The parish church Tauplitz is a Roman Catholic church in the center of Tauplitz.

The parish of Tauplitz belongs since September 1, 2020 together with the parishes of Bad Aussee, Altaussee, Grundlsee, Bad Mitterndorf and Kumitz to the newly created pastoral area Styrian Salzkammergut of the diocese of Graz-Seckau.

In 1752 a mission station against Protestantism was established in Tauplitz. A new building was erected in 1785, and the church was elevated to an independent parish in 1788. The church was restored in 1923, 1955 and 1973. On the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the church, a general renovation and restoration of the church took place in 1984 under parish priest Anton Decker.

The high altar, built in 1788 by the wood sculptor and painter Johann Fortschegger, was restored and newly gilded in 1891; the figures of St. Peter and St. Paul from the Val Gardena were purchased. Martin Johann Schmidt (Kremser Schmidt) painted the high oval picture "Christ on the Cross" in 1787.

The pulpit by Johann Fortschegger was removed and the side altars were renewed in 1893, over-carving the original baroque statues. While the statue of the Sacred Heart dates from more recent times, the late Gothic crucifix with the crucified and the assistant figures of Mary and John date from the period between 1440 and 1450. 15 late Baroque rural Stations of the Cross painted on wooden panels by an unknown painter also hang in the church interior.
