What connects Styria with Brazil? At first glance, the distance seems vast – but upon closer listening, it is the passion for music that brings cultures together across continents.
The musicians Markus Adam (saxophone, clarinet, flute, composition, conductor in St. Andrä-Höch), Elisabeth Adam (clarinet, saxophone, orchestral musician at the Vienna Volksoper) and the Brazilian multi-percussionist Chico Santana (University of Paraíba, Brazil) meet on an equal footing – with joy in playing, curiosity, and a shared desire to convey music.
In this international cooperation, a dialogue of traditions emerges: Brazilian music with its rhythms and colors meets the deeply rooted Styrian music culture. Polka encounters Choro, folk song Frevo, march Samba. It is a meeting that makes differences audible – and above all celebrates the commonalities.
Supported by young musicians, choirs, and ensembles from the region, the Greith House transforms for one evening into a sound space of diversity. The audience experiences how new musical worlds arise when cultures listen to each other and intertwine creatively.
“Styria meets Brazil” is more than a concert – it is a lively sign of openness, dialogue, and the joy of shared rhythms.
Thanks to the cultural department of the State of Styria. Chico Santana is a guest of the Artist in Residence program of the State of Styria.
