A typical Südsteirer is "born" on steep slopes
15 hectares of vineyards are cultivated with great care and manual labor, because in order to press the best wine, the gentlest treatment applies from the beginning. In the wines the pure taste of the soil is paired with strong varietal typicity. Winemaker Philipp is already the 5th generation of the family to run the winery. Calmness, which not only gives the wine the time it needs, but also the calmness that gives the wine the honor it deserves.
We look forward to your visit, taste our wines and chat with us a little about wine.
For the wine. For southern Styria. Philipp Hack is now the 5th generation to run the family business. He has been vinifying and marketing wines for the winery since graduating from the Silberberg School of Viticulture in 1999 and subsequently passing his master's examination in 2001. At the age of 17 he pressed his first wine and in the last decades he developed his own way. The cellar master never tried to push his wines into the uniformity of extras, but courted each wine like a diva. And if this needed more time for its appearance - it just needed more time. "Every wine and every site has its own qualities, which are often hidden at the beginning. My job is to create the necessary conditions for them to unfold," is how Philipp Hack explains it. As eager as his wine is to travel, the winemaker himself is modest when it comes to the question of taste: "Everyone has their own preferences. What suits one person doesn't have to suit another. In any case, Philipp Hack is uncompromising only when it comes to time, peace and honor. The varieties such as Sauvignon blanc, Pinot blanc and Muscat inhale the sun on the steep slopes and feast on the fertile soil. The approximately 15 hectares of the Hack-Gebell winery are located in Sulztal, Kitzeck - Sausal and around the house on the Eckberg. There is also the necessary peace at home. Tranquility that not only ensures that the wine is given the time it needs, but also the tranquility that helps the South Styrian wine receive the honor it deserves. Philipp Hack answers this question of honor with his Sauvignon Eckberg, his "long-distance runner", which slumbered for at least 48 months in barrique.
