GeoPath with nothklamm gorge and stone ball mill

Geological circular hiking trail with 48 stations - The trail leads along the Gamsbach stream into the wildly romantic Nothklamm gorge with wooden footbridge. At the end of the Nothklamm we reach the Steinkugelmühle. A visit to the Kraushöhle cave can also be included.
Geological circular trail with 48 stations - We comfortably walk through 250 million years of earth history, which tells, among other things, of kilometer-wide beaches, warm lagoons and their inhabitants. The path leads along the Gamsbach stream into the wildly romantic Nothklamm gorge with wooden footbridges. At the end of the Nothklamm we reach the stone ball mill, which forms beautiful balls with the power of the water. A visit to the Kraushöhle (the largest gypsum crystal cave in Central Europe) can also be included in the programme.

The geological features of the 48 stations are described in the GeoPath brochure (€ 3.00) in a way that is easy to understand. The purchase of this brochure is therefore recommended (available at the Gemeindeamt Gams and Gasthaus Kirchenwirt).

More information

Gams bei Hieflau - approach via B25 Erlauftalbundesstraße
The starting point of this signposted circular hiking trail is the GeoZentrum (museum) in Gams. From there we walk towards the Kirchenwirt and follow the signs to the Gamsbach. We cross the bridge and now we walk along the Gamsbach, pass the GeoWerkstatt and make a small loop towards Akogel. On the gravel road back, turn left along the meadow path, we come to the Parkbad and follow the Gamsbach again into the Nothklamm until we reach the wooden footbridge. We now walk along the 600 m long Nothklammsteg and at the end we reach a path that leads to the Steinkugelmühle. After the mill, the path climbs a few metres and we are at the turning point of the geopath. We now return along the Nothklammsteg, walk through 3 tunnels and pass the entrance to the Kraushöhle (gypsum crystal cave) and the natural monument Pitzengraben. Following the signs, we continue walking past the Haflingerhof and then take the second road on the left. On a short steep path we come back to the church quarter and then to the GeoZentrum.
Be sure to include a tour of the Kraus Cave!
