Graz

View and history high above Graz.

The Plabutsch is the highest point in the west of Graz at 754 meters and offers an extraordinary view. From the summit of the Fürstenstand, the highest point of the Plabutsch, the view extends far beyond the city limits, reaching into West, South, and East Styria and even into Slovenia. The newly designed observation tower, constructed in 2023/2024 from steel and wood, combines historical substance with modern architecture and allows for direct access to nature and construction art.

Already in the 19th century, the Plabutsch was recognized as a popular destination. In 1830, Erzherzog Johann (archduke) ascended the peak together with Kaiser (emperor) Franz I. and their families – an event that led to the naming of the Fürstenstand. Today, a memorial stone commemorates this historic moment. The calm, almost majestic atmosphere of the Plabutsch still attracts hikers and nature lovers.

Tip: The Plabutsch is not only a destination for walks but also a popular starting point for hikes and cycling. Numerous hiking trails lead to the summit, and the route to the Fürstenstand is also a rewarding, albeit challenging, path for cyclists.
