The Helmut List Hall is one of the most distinctive event locations in Graz – a transformation of an old factory hall from the company AVL List that has been reimagined. The renovation was inaugurated on January 9, 2003, with the world premiere of Desire by Beat Furrer, marking a kickoff for the European Capital of Culture year in Graz.
The hall impresses with its technical finesse: flexible room design, acoustic adaptability for classical as well as modern formats, and a multi-layered structure for soundproofing from ambient noise, such as from the nearby main train station. The complex covers approximately 2,000 m², including a foyer, main hall, and backstage area.
In 2023, an extension was realized under the parking lot: the Hall D / Club Detroit – an acoustically optimized space that complements the offerings for the party and club audience. Today, depending on the configuration, the hall can accommodate up to 2,400 people, ranging from smaller concerts to large events.
The Helmut List Hall embodies a connection between aspiration and transformation: a venue that evolves with the city, blurring boundaries between technology and culture, and creating space for musical, theatrical, or societal snapshots.
