Rosary way

Hike from Mariazell along the Rosary Trail to St. Sebastian to St. Sebastian's Church
Between 1975 and 1980, 15 historic baroque wayside shrines were dismantled, restored and re-erected on the newly laid out "Sebastianiweg" (Rosary Path) at the foot of the Bürgeralpe. They had been designed by the great baroque architect of the Mariazell Basilica, Domenica Sciassia, around 1640 and guided pilgrims from the Sebastiani Chapel, the end of the "Via Sacra", the last kilometers to Mariazell. Due to the expansion of the federal road, they were severely threatened by decay and could only be saved with the help of numerous donors from home and abroad.

The St. Sebastian Church was also designed by the master builder of the Mariazell Basilica - Domenico Sciassia - and built from 1644. The central building on a cruciform ground plan is the last stop for pilgrims on the "Via Sacra" from Vienna to Mariazell.
