Wallfahrtskirche Mariä Geburt Oppenberg

Rottenmann

The parish church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, first mentioned in a document in 1403, is located away from the centre of the village. The church is 28 metres long and 8 metres wide inside, 18 metres including the side chapels. In the nave, it still clearly shows the Romanesque layout, which was, however, gothicised in the 14th century. The choir dates from the middle of the 15th century.

The Romanesque paintings on the northern wall of the nave from the early 14th century are interesting. In the main choir there is a Renaissance wall tabernacle on the north side. Of greatest interest is the altar in the southern side chapel, which, like the main part of the rest of the Baroque church furnishings, dates from the late 17th century (1684). In the centre of the altar is the high-quality high relief group of the "Adoration of the Magi" from around 1490, which determines the overall appearance of the altar.
