GeoRama

Landl

Just around the corner from the church, not quite at the Kirchenwirt in the centre of little Gams, there is - how could it be otherwise - a museum. It revolves around rocks, minerals and fossils and is nevertheless (or exactly because of that) very exciting. Especially if you visit the museum on a guided tour, you really get something out of it afterwards and feel like a soaked sponge full of knowledge. And you suddenly understand why it is rumoured that the GeoRama in Gams is the most beautiful geological museum. What's more, it is part of the UNESCO Global Geoparks! We would also give it the title of "warmest" museum.

What is Gagat?

If you don't know anything, you look stupid. But that changes when it comes to geology, at the latest after a visit to GeoRama. For example, you hear about the Gagat, which was once mined here in Gams. This special kind of coal is very light and used to be made into jewellery and rosaries. You never stop learning. In addition - and this is actually something you can try out for yourself during your visit to Gams - 14 different fossils, such as snails or shells, have already been found in this special little place. Maybe the 15th will turn up soon?
