Wanderung zum Eberlsee

The Eberlsee lake in the Triebental valley is a hidden gem in the Seckau Alps. A short but challenging hike takes you through forests, across sunny slopes and small streams to the small mountain lake. Whether for a break by the water or a refreshing dip - the Eberlsee is always an experience.

The hike to Lake Eberlsee in the Triebental valley combines enjoyment of nature, exercise and tranquillity. The starting point is the "Seyfried" parking lot at in the idyllic Triebental valley. Initially, the trail leads along a forest road before leading steadily uphill through forests and across small streams. The landscape soon opens up and you can enjoy sweeping views across the valley. The ascent is steep in places, but after around 1.5 hours the Eberlsee lake rewards you with its incomparable beauty: crystal-clear water, nestled in the tranquil mountain world of the Seckau Alps with a view of the imposing Grießstein. Here you can take a break, have a picnic or simply relax and unwind. The brave can even take a quick dip, as the lake remains refreshingly cool even in summer. The way back is via the same path. In total, you should plan around three hours walking time for the tour - a worthwhile hike for nature lovers and connoisseurs.

Take the A2
towards Graz,
continue
via the S6 towards Leoben,
at
junction St. Michael change to the A9 towards Linz,
to
to the Trieben exit,
to
follow the B114 through Hohentauern into Triebental,
to
to Gehöft Seyfried.

From Graz (approx. 1.5 hours):

Take the A9 in the direction of Linz/Salzburg via

Take the 100-Trieben exit at

Continue on
on the B114 towards Judenburg/Hohentauern.
Follow the
B114 to Hohentauern and on into Triebental.
Follow the
road into Triebental as far as the Seyfried farm.

From Salzburg (approx. 2.5 hours):

Take the A10 in the direction of Villach via

At
take exit 63-Altenmarkt onto the B320 towards Radstadt/Liezen.
Follow
on the B320 until the A9 slip road towards Graz.
Take the exit 100-Trieben at
.
Continue on
on the B114 towards Judenburg/Hohentauern.
Follow the
B114 to Hohentauern and on into Triebental.
Follow the
road into Triebental as far as the Seyfried farmstead

The starting point is parking lot 3 - Seyfried in Triebental. From there, follow the asphalt road for a few minutes until a marked forest path branches off to the right shortly before the Eberlkapelle chapel. After a short section with possible grazing cattle, the path leads over a stream and then uphill to the left over an embankment. The rest of the trail is well marked throughout, mostly steeply uphill, alternating between forest, small streams and open spaces. After around 1.5 hours, you reach the Eberlsee lake at 1,740 m. Return via the same path, total walking time approx. 3 hours.

This tour is NOT considered "accessible by train and bus" because there is no regular connection.

Avoid contact with grazing animals, do not feed them, keep a safe distance!
Keep calm, do not frighten grazing animals!
Mother cows protect their calves. Avoid encounters between mother cows and dogs!
Always keep dogs under control and on a short leash. If an attack by a grazing animal is foreseeable: Immediately unleash!
Do not leave hiking trails on alpine pastures and meadows!
If grazing animals block the way, avoid them as far as possible!
When grazing animals approach: Stay calm, do not turn your back, avoid the animals!
Leave the grazing area quickly at the first sign of restlessness of the animals!Fences must be respected!
If there is a gate, use it, then close it well and cross the pasture quickly!
Treat the people working here, nature and the animals with respect!

A few tips for correct and fair behavior in the forest: (Source: www.bundesforste.at - 6/2021)

Hikers should avoid visits to the forest about 1.5 hours before sunrise and after sunset, as wildlife is especially active during this time.
Plastic bottles, handkerchiefs, cigarette butts & Co have no place in the forest! Please make sure that you do not leave any trash in the forest.
Camping and making fire - is strictly forbidden in the forest!
In principle, each person is allowed to collect 2 kg of mushrooms and berries per day for personal use in the forest. It is only forbidden if the forest owner expressly forbids it.
