The hike to the Burgstallkogel is "experienced history" a direct encounter with the monuments of a past that cannot be accessed through written sources.
As early as the Hallstatt period (8th - 5th century BC), there was a settlement here covering about 20 hectares. The finds from this period point to the largest Hallstatt-period necropolis (= burial site) in the Eastern Alps, with around 3000 urn graves. The area was continuously inhabited.

Coming from the south, north, west and east on the A9 Phyrnautobahn - exit Leibnitz - continue in the direction of Kaindorf/S - Heimschuh - Großklein.
The hike begins at the Hallstatt Museum in Großklein, leads at the Steirerkeller inn along the Kirchsteig on municipal and forest paths towards Karberg and over the Lassenberg through a section of forest back down to Narrath. Passing the Zitz wine farm (Siegl), you walk over the Saggaubach and along the little-used country road back to the starting point. Stop for refreshments / hot food at Gasthaus Wagner and Gasthaus Wrolli.
Visit the Hallstatt Museum in Großklein.
We take the train to Kaindorf a.d.Sulm.
