Photo exhibition by Dieter Bornemann
The images depict the “dark thoughts” of depressed individuals – manifested in gloomy black-and-white photographs. Dieter Bornemann himself was confronted with the effects of the illness in his personal environment from a young age. The strong vignetting of the images represents the severely limited and narrowed view of reality that accompanies this illness. The photographs are meant to be more than just a purely artistic exploration of this topic; they also aim to educate and raise awareness for those affected or their relatives through accompanying texts.
Dieter Bornemann, born in 1967 in Graz, transitioned from analog press photography to artistic work with digital images. He attended the New York Film Academy, is a graduated student of the Vienna School of Photography, and is a member of “fotoK – Association for Art and Photography” and the “IG Bildende Kunst,” the interest group representing visual artists in Austria. In 2017, Bornemann was appointed to the jury for the Federal Prize of Austrian Professional Photographers, and since 2019 he has been chairing the jury. Today he lives and works in Vienna.
