The idea of Kistenbratl is not necessarily new. People discovered very early on that you can bury meat and potatoes and then light a fire on top of them. The buried grilling food is then cooked with top heat. Later, the pieces to be grilled were placed in a hole in the ground, which was then covered with a stone slab. The fire was kindled on this stone. Many will now remember how they cooked potatoes under a campfire as children. The principle is probably always the same and is perfected in Kistenbratl. The meat goes into a box, and the fire is placed on the lid of the box. This allows the roast to be cooked gently with top heat.
