Feel the world of the Hallstatt period! Immerse yourself in the history of our ancestors: Walk in the footsteps of the ancestors to the Hallstatt period homestead and the still numerous preserved burial mounds and explore the finds from this area steeped in history.
In Großklein you will find the largest Hallstatt-period necropolis in the eastern Alps with more than 700 preserved burial mounds. The museum focuses on the settlement, economy and culture of the region around the Burgstallkogel during the Hallstatt period (ca. 800 - 450 BC). Finds such as the face mask and the votive hands made of bronze achieved worldwide fame.
Visit, for example, the special exhibition "We are stardust - meteorites tell about themselves and mankind...". The Hallstatt Museum Großklein warmly welcomes families.
Along the archaeological themed hiking trail (Fürstengräberweg Nr. 13), the history of the area is presented on display boards. The path leads through the Hallstatt period homestead. The experimental archaeological house reconstructions were made according to archaeological findings. A dwelling house with a shingle roof, a weaving hut with a loom, a post-and-beam granary (granary) and a bread baking hut with a bark roof invite visitors to take a journey back in time to 2800 years ago.
